Course overview

This is a short 6-week course to gain further knowledge and skills within the Passive House/Retrofitting aspect of house renovation and construction. The course will provide you with up-to-date techniques and practical demonstrations on the basics of Passive House, retrofit principals and the wider opportunities that exist within this area of construction. The 6-week course will consist of four workshop based sessions and two online sessions.

Participants will receive a National Open Colleges Network (NOCN) fabric first and whole house retrofit qualification after a successful practical and theoretical assessment.

The course will run for 6-weeks on a Friday, 9am-4pm, at the college.

    Aspects covered on the course will include:

    • Sustainability and the environment
    • Basics of Retrofitting, airtightness & ventilation
    • Retrofit principals & practical sessions including insulation, plaster, construction processes
    • Information and Guidance – working in the trade i.e. CV writing, interview and presentation skills and practice (as appropriate)

    All applicants that successfully complete the programme will be guaranteed an interview with Pure Haus.

    This course is designed to support individuals normally resident in York & North Yorkshire to develop skills that will help them access a career path in Retrofitting construction.
