Course overview

T Levels are new courses that follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A levels. These 2-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of the industry and prepares students for work, further training, or study.

T Levels offer students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days).

This qualification is suitable for post-16 students looking to develop both knowledge and practical skills in the health sector. You will study the following core units:

All students will develop a general understanding of health and science: 

  • Working within the health and science sector
  • Health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Managing information and data
  • Principles of good scientific and clinical practice
  • Core science concepts including the structure of cells, tissues and large molecules, genetics, microbiology and immunology

They will also learn about topics specific to health, including:

  • Understanding the healthcare sector
  • Providing person-centred care
  • Supporting health and wellbeing
  • Further knowledge of both human anatomy and physiology and of diseases and disorders
  • Infection prevention and control

In addition to the core content, each student must choose one of the following specialisms:

  • Supporting the adult nursing team
  • Supporting the mental health team

  • Entry Requirements

    Students must meet one of the following requirements:

    • Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, maths, and science.
  • Careers/Progression

    This technical qualification will support students onto a range of progression routes including employment, higher education, and higher-level apprenticeships.
