Five Ways to Wellbeing

To help students to feel positive and get the most out of their time at Harrogate College we promote the five ways to wellbeing.

1. Connect with people
Make the effort to talk to someone you don’t know, smile and say hello. Connecting with others helps protect your wellbeing.

2. Be Active
Exercise can help reduce stress and improve your mood.

3. Take Notice
Look at your surroundings and notice your mood. Increase your self-awareness and be mindful of the world around you. Be present. Recognise what is important to you and your life.

4. Keep Learning
Boost your self-esteem and confidence by trying something new. Contact the Students’ Union to find out what activities you can get involved in at college.

5. Give
Helping others can boost your wellbeing. Say thank you, volunteer your time to help someone, be kind to others.

We recognise that everyone wants a little help and support from time to time. If you’re feeling sad, stressed, lonely or worried, know that you’re not alone and we can help you get the support that you need.

It’s always good to talk

As a student you can access a team of counsellors and mental health officers, and we have dedicated pastoral staff who can refer you to support services. If you are worried about someone else, our Safeguarding team is also available for support and advice.

A peaceful space

Our Oasis Room is a safe space to calm down if you are experiencing anxiety, stress or sensory overload. As well as diverse spaces within the building, we have created a Garden of Sanctuary, a peaceful space for quiet reflection and a chance to re-charge during a busy day.

Academic concerns?

As a student you will receive academic support from your teachers and coaching tutors, but you can always reach out if you have any particular worries. You can also contact our ilearn team for skills training, 1:1 advice, workshops or engaging learning materials. Or visit our Active Learning Zone to access a range of resources such as books, Google Chromebooks, CDs and DVDs.

Additionally, you can take part in exam preparation sessions.
