Course overview

AAT provide training for a range of accounting and finance roles, respected by employers worldwide.

Study our Level 1 Award in Business Skills qualification to develop your understanding of everyday business activities, and understand sales and purchases. The course is ‘part-time classroom taught’ every Wednesday morning AND afternoon and will run during the first semester (Sept-Dec).

  • Who is this course for?

    This is a course suitable for any adult wishing to build their confidence, upskill and to develop understanding of everyday business activities, and understand sales and purchases.

  • Units/Modules

    Working in the business environment

    This unit introduces you to the skills needed in the workplace, including the importance of teamwork, communication, effective time management and professional behaviour. You will also learn about some of the core finance processes linked to sales and purchase orders.

    • Develop skills for the workplace.
    • Understand how organisations operate.
    • Understand how sales and purchases support businesses.
    • Apply business procedures to sales and purchases.

    Using numbers in Business

    Numeracy is an essential business skill. This unit will introduce you to the basic skills needed when working with numbers in a business environment, developing confidence and skills to use and apply numbers to a wide range of situations.

    • Perform simple business calculations.
    • Calculate decimals, fractions, percentage, proportions and ratios.
    • Use tools and techniques to present numerical data.

    To achieve this qualification, students must successfully achieve one mandatory computer based externally marked assessment.

    This course is designed to support individuals who would like to progress into jobs in the following areas:

    • Data entry clerk
    • Administrative assistant
    • A receptionist
    • A retail assistant
    • A customer service advisor
    • A dispatch clerk/warehouse operative

    You will obtain core knowledge and skills to prepare you for employment and further study.
