Course overview

We are now offering the Level 2 Teacher Assistant course.

This qualification prepares learners for further learning and training whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting. It covers areas such as how to support the well-being of a child or young person and child and young person development.

This course will enable you to develop the knowledge, skills and experience required to work as a teaching assistant in a primary or secondary school or college. Study part-time The course will run during the daytime at either our Harrogate (Friday) or Ripon campus (TBC) from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

  • Entry Requirements
    The course is aimed at 19+ adults. Those having completed the L1 Teacher Assistant and have also worked (or volunteered) in a school or college classroom environment will have a distinct advantage.

  • Who is this course for?
    This qualification is aimed at adults who are thinking of working in a school or college setting. It offers a natural progression from the level 1 Teacher Assistant programme.

    You will study 3 mandatory units including:

    • Understand schools as organisations
    • Understand how to keep children and young people healthy, safe and well
    • Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults
  • Careers/Progression
    The Level?2 Teacher Assistant programme provides the first steps of a structured career staircase that can take you from part-time classroom support to fully-qualified teacher or specialist practitioner. Ideally suited to fit into a busy adult and family life.
  • Assessment Types
    All units are internally assessed through the learner building up a portfolio of evidence (which will include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board) that covers the relevant assessment criteria. They are internally assessed and verified by the centre and then externally verified by NCFE.
