Course overview

If you earn under £25,000 per year, are unemployed or don't currently hold a level 2 (GCSE level) qualification you may be entitled to study this course for free. If you don't meet the eligibility criteria we will advise you of the cost. We are now offering the Level 1 Community Interpreting course.

Studying on our community interpreting course will allow you to help others in your local community develop their skills and overcome language barriers that they face in everyday situations; so, if you speak both English and another language, you may be interested in our community interpreting courses.

The course will run of a daytime at either our Harrogate or Ripon campus from 9.30am to 3.00pm.

  • Entry Requirements
    The course is aimed at 19+ adults who speak English and at least a second language fluently.
  • Benefits/Skills

    The aims of the qualification are to enable learners:

    • To learn how to use language skills to the best advantage
    • To learn about the sectors where interpreters may be required to work
    • To learn about the role of the community interpreter
  • Who is this course for?

    The course is aimed at 19+ adults, including:

    • Those who have an interest in working with different linguistic groups in the community
    • Those who have an interest in learning about the role of an interpreter
    • Those who wish to acquire further qualifications to enable them to work towards becoming a Community Interpreter
  • Units/Modules

    The award consists of three mandatory units.

    There are several features of this qualification that make it very appropriate for its target learners:

    • It allows the learners to learn about the role of a community interpreter
    • The learners can start to explore the public voluntary sectors and how they support community needs
    • Unit certification is available for each of the units
    • Verification and certification can be offered throughout the year, allowing maximum flexibility for centres

    L2 Certificate in Preparing for the Community Interpreting
  • Assessment Types
    All units are internally assessed through the learner building up a portfolio of evidence that covers the relevant assessment criteria. They are internally assessed and verified by the centre and then externally verified by Ascentis.
