Course overview

Do you see yourself working in an industry design team? Perhaps, you see yourself running your own creative business? Our Surface Pattern course lets you realise your creative potential combining practical print processes with digital and technical skills. This course will encourage your ambition and build your design confidence.

During this 5-week course, you will explore some of the skills needed to understand what Surface Pattern is and its techniques. You will be exploring pattern trends within fashion and homeware as starting points for your own personal projects. You will learn how to create a Moodboard, which will be the starting point to then create your own patterns. You will learn how to create your own patterns through a range of specific drawing and painting techniques used by designers within the textile industry. Finally, you will learn how to develop your sketches into final designs.

The course will run for 5-weeks on a Tuesday afternoon or evening, at the college.

    Whilst there are no formal entry requirements for this course, if further information is required before you start, we are here for an informal chat to make sure the course is right for you. £200 as a course fee to cover tutor fees and materials.

  • Who is this course for?
    The course is ideal for anyone with a passion for creating repeat patterns and print for fashion and interiors, this course covers everything from initial research and drawing, through design awareness, development and final print design collections.

    Our course includes hands-on practical demonstrations by our tutor. Individual and group work will take place in our fantastic studio space.

    During the 5 weeks, all learners will be supported by the tutor giving one to one feedback as well as group tutorials.
